Be a Storm Chaser!
Help us catalog the damage that you see in your neighborhoods!

Use the methods below to submit your own storm and damage report, or skip to #6, and we’ll do it for you!
🌀 1. Use the NWS “Storm Report” Submission Form
Each local NWS office accepts storm reports through an online form or email.
- Go to: https://www.weather.gov/
- Find the local forecast office by ZIP code or region.
- Look for a link like:
“Submit a Storm Report”
or
“Submit Severe Weather Photos / Damage Reports”
You’ll usually be able to include:
- Date and time
- Location (address, lat/long)
- Type of event (hail, tornado, wind, flood, etc.)
- Size (e.g. hail size in inches)
- Damage description
- Upload photos or videos (if allowed)
📍 Tip: Some regional offices provide a shortcut to submit via email or social media.
đź›° 2. Use the mPING App (NOAA-Partnered Tool)
- mPING = Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground
- Developed by NOAA and the University of Oklahoma
- Downloadable on Android and iOS
You can report:
- Hail
- Wind
- Tornadoes
- Ice
- Flooding
- Visibility issues
📱 Simply open the app → choose event type → report location and time.
The data goes straight to researchers and NWS forecasters.

đź–Ľ 3. Tag NWS on Social Media with Photos
If you tweet or post storm damage or hail sizes:
- Tag @NWS or your local NWS office handle
- Use hashtags like #StormReport, #Hail, #WindDamage
- Include location + time + size/impact
They monitor these for real-time awareness and damage assessment.
📊 4. Contribute to CoCoRaHS (Long-Term Precipitation Data)
If you’re more into daily rain/hail measurement:
- Join CoCoRaHS.org
- It’s a citizen-science network where you log weather from your location over time
🧪 Good if you want to be part of a long-term network of contributors.
📝 5. Forensic-Level Submission
If you’re considering contributing to storm verification (as we do), consider:
- Building a Google Forms template for submitting timestamped storm data via email
- Including:
- Maps
- Images with EXIF data (timestamps)
- Witness affidavits
- Roof inspection forms
You can then submit this to:
Private partners like CoreLogic or Verisk
